Marco Cologna
Joint Research Centre, European Commission

Marco Cologna works as a Scientist at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission since 2013. He received a Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering in 2009 from the University of Trento (Italy) for his work on tape casting and co-sintering of solid oxide fuel cells. Before joining JRC he has been working also at Demag Plastics Group (IT), SOFC power -SOLID power (IT), University of Colorado at Boulder (USA) and Siemens Corporate Technology (DE). His research interests are in the area of materials for energy conversion and storage, ceramic powder technologies, role of electric fields on materials processing and advanced methods for ceramic nuclear fuels synthesis for safety assessment. In the years 2009-2011, as a post-doc at the University of Colorado at Boulder, he has been working on the effect of electrical field on the sintering of ceramics in collaboration with Prof Rishi Raj. This work resulted in the development of the Flash Sintering method.
