Phase development of silicon oxycarbide nanocomposites under different conditions

Kathy Lu is a professor in Materials Science and Engineering of Virginia Tech. Her research interests are on materials processing. For polymer-derived ceramics, her group has been focused on developing ultrahigh surface area SiOC and studying the functional properties of the resulting systems. She has published >150 peer-reviewed journal papers, >20 peer-reviewed proceeding papers, and 3 book chapters. In addition, she has edited 5 books and single-authored 2 textbooks.

Kathy Lu received her PhD from Ohio State University and her BS from Tianjin University. She is the recipient of 2017 Fellow of the American Ceramic Society, 2016 Virginia Tech Alumni Award for Research Excellence, 2012 College of Engineering Faculty Fellow Award, Virginia Tech, 2011 Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, 2008 Karl Schwartzwalder- Professional Achievement in Ceramic Engineering Award, 2005 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award. She is a member of American Ceramic Society, Materials Research Society, Sigma Xi, and TMS.
