Oleg Vasylkiv
NIMS, Japan

Dr. Oleg Vasylkiv currently works at RCFM of NIMS (Japan), conducting research in ceramic engineering, oxide and non-oxide ceramic and composites, nanotechnology. His current project is 'Engineering via reactive spark plasma sintering of bulk complex B(Ti,Ta, Nb, Zr, Si)CNO composites with unique high strength and toughness (static and dynamic).' Dr. Vasylkiv has combined the merits of powder synthesis, Electric Current Activated Processing Techniques and of processing strategies for the design of technologies with precise control of the parameters (current, temperature, pressure, atmosphere, etc.) applied on powder body with establishing morpho-structural and compositional features, which lead to fabrication of bulk multi-functional high-temperature ceramics within reactive or non-reactive approaches.

Dr. Vasylkiv published more than 100 ISI articles in the field of oxide, carbide, nitride and boride ceramics engineering, sintering, details of spark plasma and microwave sintering, non-conventional processing of nanopowders (nano-reactors engineering, nano-blast, field assisted chemical routes for powder preparation), hard, tough, durable and other advanced ceramics and composites. Three patents been granted from Japan and Germany. Dr. Vasylkiv presented scientific results at about 90 international conferences as oral lectures (14 were invited) and he was co-author of many other presentations.

Oleg received his MS degree (high-temperature materials and powder metallurgy) from the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (Ukraine) in 1994, his PhD degree (nano-ceramics processing science) from IPMS NAS of Ukraine in 1997 and Habilitation /DSc/ (nanostructured materials science) in 2006. He been awarded STA post-doctoral fellowships (Japan) 1999-2001, and later became a Special Researcher- post-doc fellow in newly established NIMS (Japan) 2001-2003. 2004-2008 Oleg was an ICYS international fellow in NIMS and since 2008, he is a permanent staff C Leading researcher of National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS, Japan). During 2008-2016 Dr. Vasylkiv also acted as Adjunct Principal Research Scientist (Program Co-PI) in NTU, Singapore and Adjunct Professor in Nat. Technical. Univ. of Ukraine KPI.
